Training Programs: Garry Prosser: Lift Trucks

OUR MANDATE IS:
“PROVIDE TO YOU A UNIQUE AND THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE SITE/TRUCK SPECIFIC LIFT TRUCK SAFETY COURSE AVAILABLE IN ATLANTIC CANADA”

DO NOT ACCEPT DRIVE-THRU OR GENERIC TRAINING WHERE THE INSTRUCTOR SHOWS UP THE MORNING OF THE COURSE! OUR COURSE FORMAT INVOLVES EVERYONE WORKING AT YOUR COMPANY.

All Lift truck operators must be "competent"; this includes safety training and instruction regardless of experience. Further, the word competent includes a provision that operators must be "knowledgeable about potential or actual danger to health & safety associated with the assigned work". This suggests all lift truck training should be site and truck specific - include information on your lift truck(s) and your application. Drive-thru or textbook generic training does NOT have the full potential of reducing workplace injuries at your business.

Add to this the statistics that suggest up to 44% of the people being injured by a lift truck are pedestrians and 58% of the lift truck fatalities are pedestrians and the importance of site/truck specific training becomes very clear.

All Lift Truck Training will do a pre-visit to your business and tour your application. Pictures will be taken of the lift truck(s) being used in your application. Special notice will be taken of your blind corners, inter-sections, doorways, your procedures, storage of propane cylinders - if applicable, battery charging - if applicable, daily safety inspections (mandatory by law), elevated safety platforms - if used, hazard and near miss reporting and much more... your actual application in general.

This now allows us to prepare a one day lift truck safety course specific to your truck(s) and application. We are now able to offer you a number of value-added components at no additional cost to you!

1. PEDESTRIAN SAFETY AWARENESS
Pedestrians too must be competent - "knowledgeable about potential or actual danger to health & safety associated with the assigned work" and as the statistics above are suggesting, pedestrians should receive instruction for their safety working or walking around lift trucks. Just training operators may not attain your desired result - zero injuries at your business.

The first section of the classroom instruction is for all employees of your Company that could “come in contact” with a lift truck. As observers, this is no additional cost to you!

2. IN-HOUSE (JHSC) SAFETY COMMITTEE, HR and/or H&S OFFICER
This is your safety meeting. Issues may come up that (a) could be of interest to your safety committee or (b) an area of concern that should be addressed by your safety committee at a later date or (c) an idea or thought that your safety committee may wish to explore - at their next meeting. Members of your in-house safety committee are invited to attend the full classroom session as observers. At no additional cost to you!

3. MANAGEMENT “DUE DILIGENCE”
According to the law, foremen (women), lead hands, supervisors and management are employers; they must exercise “due diligence” by taking necessary action to avoid an injury to an employee. How better to assist in their job performance and legal liability than to attend the classroom instruction on lift truck safety? If they are able to recognize a poor driving habit or a site specific concern, they are better able to exercise their “due diligence”.

Supervisors/foremen (women)/lead hands - must receive training in order to be effective (and competent) in their position within your Company. It is imperative your hands-on supervisor(s) participates.

All management personnel are invited to participate in the classroom instruction as observers. At no additional cost to you!
